At this week's Cabinet meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Dr Denzil Douglas, the improvement of the cost and quality of electrical supply was discussed.
The prospect of the use of heavier, cheaper fuel at the generating plant was a major topic for discussion, as studies have concluded that, once the majority of the generating engines will have been converted for the use of cheaper fuel, consumers will save about 10 ½ cents per Kwh.
“This conversion, however, will cost the government $12.6 million over two years,” said Minister of State for Information, Sen. Nigel Carty.
Carty said that Cabinet was concerned about the environmental impact of the use of heavier diesel fuel and therefore commissioned an Environmental Impact Assessment, which will be done according to international standards.
With several major projects being rolled out, the Cabinet has concluded that the country was now ready for further economic growth, which will raise the demand for high quality electricity supply services. | | | | Reads : 248 | | | |
