Task force in Jamaica wants sex offenders' registry

KINGSTON, Jamaica: The Task Force that was established by the Jamaican government wants to restore the Ananda Alert - the network for missing children - in the light of the large number of children who are missing and some of them killed.
The Jamaica Gleaner reported that the Task Force wants government to pass the Sexual Offenders Bill as quickly as possible in order to give law enforcement officers the tools to track down and apprehend sexual offenders.
The Bill makes provision for a Sex Offenders Registry to be established in order to monitor sex offenders. Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Bruce Golding said that violence against the innocent was “outrageous” and Opposition Leader Portia Simpson Miller is calling for government to push through the Sexual Offenders Bill as quickly as possible.
So far for the year, 56 children have been murdered, with some of them having been brutally raped and killed. | | | | Reads : 878 | | | |
