ST GEORGE ‘S, Grenada: From October 11- 24, 2008, Grenada's Minister of Finance, Nazim Burke, will be attending the annual meetings of the Boards of Governors of the IMF/World Bank Group in Washington DC.

According to a release from the Ministry of Finance the annual meetings of the IMF and World Bank is a high level forum where the Board of Governors of the International Monetary Fund and the Boards of Governors of the World Bank Group meet once a year (around September/October) to discuss the work of their respective institutions.

The annual meetings include two days of plenary sessions during which Governors take up matters of business and present their countries' views on current issues in international economics and finance.

At these meetings, the Boards of Governors make decisions on how current international monetary issues should be addressed and approve corresponding resolutions.

In recent years, the annual meetings have been preceded by meetings of the International Monetary and Financial Committee, the Development Committee, the Group of Thirty – a private independent non profit international body comprised of senior representatives of the public and private sectors which caters to the needs and interests of developing countries.

It is expected that this year’s meeting will focus heavily on the current world-wide economic downturn and financial crisis.

As part of his agenda, Minister Burke will be meeting with the Executive Director of the World Bank, Dr. Samy Watson; the Executive Director of the IMF, Michael Horgan; the Country Director of the Caribbean Management Unit, Dr. Yvonne Tskikata; and the Managing Director of the IMF, Dominique Strauss-Kahn.
