Havana, Cuba (ACN): Cuban specialists are developing polymeric membranes that could be used as artificial skin for patients with third-degree burns.

The project is being carried out by specialists from the laboratory of the National Center for Animal and Plant Health (CENSA), reports the Granma newspaper.

The laboratory is equipped with a Canadian irradiator to decontaminate the biopharmaceutical medicaments and the tools required in research.

The scientific facility is in need of some technological renovation that will be financed by the International Organization of Atomic Energy.

Yanet Rodriguez, one of the experts involved in the programme, said clinical tests will be carried out first on animals and later on human beings.
