Jamaica's Campbell-Brown eyeing world sprint double

MIAMI, USA: Reigning two-time Olympic 200-metres champion Veronica Campbell-Brown says she aims to win the women’s sprint double at next year’s IAAF World Track and Field Championships in Berlin, but will continue to follow her desire one step at a time.
"The aim is to win the double (in Berlin), but I am just going to go out there and do my best as usual," the Jamaican star sprint said.
At the last world championships Campbell-Brown out-leaned American Lauryn Williams for the gold medal in a very close 100-metre dash finish in Osaka, Japan in 2007.
She now hopes to repeat that feat -- especially after missing out at winning a slot on the Jamaican 100m team for the Olympics -- as well as improving her second place finish in the half-lap, an event she dominated at the Olympics in August.
"It is important (to win the 200 metres), but I would say the 100m is equally important, because I am the defending champion going into Berlin," she said. "I am going to train hard and go for both events."
With only the 200m dash to concentrate on in Beijing, Campbell-Brown dominated in every round on the competition prior to sizzling to a career best time of 21.74 seconds and defended the title she first one at the Athens Olympics in 2004.
Jamaicans were totally dominant in the sprint events inside the Bird’s Nest Stadium, as they won all the short sprint events -- with Usain Bolt collecting gold in both the men’s 100m and 200m, while Shelly Ann Fraser led a Jamaican sweep in the women’s event. | | | | Reads : 799 | | | |
