GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Efforts are being made for closer ties between the Caribbean and Africa, South Africa High Commissioner to the Caribbean, Faith Radebe, disclosed when she paid a courtesy call on Guyana's President Bharat Jagdeo on Wednesday in Georgetown.
Radebe said that there is a historic connection between Africa and the Caribbean region and effective programmes should be worked out to bring the peoples together.
Reference was made to the upcoming Summit scheduled for October 10 and 11 in South Africa, which will be attended by several Caribbean leaders.
At that meeting, ways and means will be discussed for closer ties and it is expected that there will be biannual conferences to work out the mechanism for closer cultural and economic ties.
It is likely that the Caribbean will host the 2010 conference. | | | | Reads : 432 | | | |
