GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Guyana's Chief Magistrate Juliet Holder-Allen, who had a four year battle with her bosses, has officially resigned and has threatened to take legal action against the Judicial Services Commission (JSC).

Her resignation letter was handed over on Tuesday to the secretary of Chief Justice Carl Singh, who is acting as Chancellor of the Judiciary.

According to the Kaiteur News, the resignation is effective September 15, and the newspaper reported that the Chief Magistrate "delivered a scathing attack on the JSC,” which she accused of "high handed" action in having her removed from active duty in 2004.

She told newsmen that she had some 20years more of service before retiring, but the Commission's actions had stymied her chances of further promotion.

She added, "I have been Chief Magistrate for about eight years. I have worked hard and I consider myself very competent. I am not corrupt, I am not immoral. Clearly anybody with my qualifications and with seniority should have gone ahead."

Holder-Allen criticised some of her colleagues for not supporting her in her cause and announced that she is considering entering the political arena in order to stamp out some of the malpractices that now exist in the country.
