GEORGETOWN, Guyana: A parliamentary delegation from Brazil, headed by Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Brazilian Parliament, Senator Heraclito Fortes, met with Speaker of Guyana's National Assembly Ralph Ramkarran and several parliamentarians at the Parliament Building on Brickdam, Georgetown.
Among the topics discussed were ways and means of strengthening relations, and closer co-operation between the parliaments of the neighbouring republic and Guyana.
The Guyana Chronicle reported that the Brazilian parliament has established a Guyana/Brazil Parliamentary committee and the Guyana Speaker was asked to set up a sister body.
Alluding to other aspects of the exchange, the pending completion of the bridge across the Takutu River and the possibility of upgrading the road between the two countries were noted.
The Head of the Brazilian delegation invited Guyanese parliamentarians to visit them in Brazil.
A large number of Brazilians now live in Guyana and more and more are attracted to Georgetown.
Present at Monday's meeting were parliamentarians from the governing People's Progressive Party Civic, and the two opposition parties, the People's National Congress Reform, and Alliance for Change. | | | | Reads : 56 |
