GEORGETOWN, Guyana: One of the late president of Guyana Forbes Burnham's top lieutenants has criticised the organisers of Carfesta X for failing to credit Burnham’s vision of the festival.

Elvin McDavid, who was Minister of Information in 1972 and later became Burnham's chief political advisor, said he was saddened that no recognition was given to Burnham, who he described as "the greatest Guyanese we will ever have".

He told a small gathering at a cultural tribute to the former president over the weekend that "there are those at the Office of the President and State House who don't acknowledge it."

The Stabroek News reported that McDavid said, "They ignored the great man who created it, but history has a way of biting."

He credited the success of the first festival, started in 1972 in Guyana, to Burnham's leadership, saying that he led by example and inspired the nation to follow him.

McDavid said that Burnham's policies, once discarded by the current administration, are being quietly re-implemented in new guises. He argued that Burnham's Feed, Clothe and House (FCH) plan has been adopted by the Administration.
