GEORGETOWN, Guyana: The Guyana Responsible Parenthood Association (GRPA) has launched an initiative to fight the dreaded disease AIDS through Training and Education (FATE) in 12 Caribbean countries

The Canadian International Development Agency (CIDA) will assist to fund the programme. Among the countries where the programme will be pioneered are Jamaica, Belize, Barbados, Montserrat, St Lucia and Grenada.

A workshop, which was deemed a success and was ably supported by five facilitators, looked at Stigma and Discrimination of the HIV Epidemic and targeted a large number of persons living with the deadly virus.

A meeting is planned with UNAIDS (The Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS) to discuss funding and to affirm the statement as a document sanctioned by the UN body.

The Guyana Chronicle reported that the statement is a concise one that focuses on fundamental considerations by the GRPA and the requirements that could be assisted by the government, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), as well as civil society.
