GEORGETOWN, Guyana: Guyana will be receiving support from regional neighbours in the form of surveillance aircraft, which will be flying over parts of the country during the ten-day Carifesta.
President Bharat Jagdeo said that every effort is being made to ensure the comfort and safety of visitors as well as locals during the celebrations.

In a press briefing, Jagdeo said that security will be a top priority and in that light he had a look at the Operational Order of the police, which is very comprehensive - covering all the regions of the country.
He added, “We will be on an elevated state of alertness throughout the country. The security forces will all be in line," and added that there will be some additional features -- regional support for surveillance.
He added that some surveillance aircraft will be over Guyana to detect unusual activities. He also disclosed that the Trinidadian bomb detection team will be in the country and would be sweeping all venues to ensure that people are safe.
The President also disclosed that there will be extra security at the prisons to prevent any escape as in 2005 when a number of hardened criminals broke out of the Camp Street jail in Georgetown and created havoc in the country.
He has issued a call to the public for their co-operation and understanding because road blocks will be posted at the various venues and this process will slow the movement of traffic. | | | | Reads : 256 | | | |
