WILLEMSTAD, Curacao -- The status of the Netherlands Antilles as a co-operative, transparent and internationally responsible jurisdiction has been recognized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) on September 11 2009.

Secretary of Finance,
Alex Rosaria
According to a press release on Saturday, the Netherlands Antilles has worked hard to ensure that it is not regarded as a tax haven with harmful tax practices and its inclusion on the most recent OECD white list is recognition of its efforts.

"It also demonstrates that we are a co-operative and transparent international financial services centre which takes its international responsibilities very seriously," the release said.

The State Secretary of Finance of the Netherlands Antilles, Alex Rosaria warned however to not be complacent about the future.

“In view of the current economic climate, international financial services centers will remain in the spotlight and will continue to have their financial services regulation, anti-money laundering legislation and financial stability assessed by international organizations against internationally accepted benchmarks," Rosaria said.

According to Rosaria, the Netherlands Antilles must also continue with its efforts to ensure a solid supervision, a competitive tax environment, adequate marketing, more tax treaties and a globally competitive workforce.

"If we do these things, we can realize our true potential and become a top-10 international financial center," he said.
