BRADES, Montserrat -- The promotion of Montserrat as a unique and spectacular destination continued with the participation of the Montserrat Tourist Board (MTB) at the recent Adventures in Travel Expo travel show in New York.
In its sixth year, and held at the Jacob Javits Convention Centre from October 10-11, 2009, the show was attended by over 10,000 people, including over 1,000 registered travel agents and members of the media. The show attracted hundreds of exhibitors from Europe, Asia, the Caribbean and Latin America, who were able to interact with the steady stream of high-demographic attendees all weekend.
The Montserrat booth was located in the Caribbean section of the show and was decorated with several large hanging posters and a pull down banner, depicting the main tourism product offerings of the island, including volcano adventures, diving, hiking, cultural festivals and villa vacations.
The tabletop used at the booth was decorated with the national cloth, and displayed promotional information in the form of destination brochures, maps, special vacation packages, flyers on upcoming events, and brochures from private businesses on the island. Local fudge was available for sampling and other giveaways in the form of key rings, refrigerator magnets, luggage tags and pens, all branded with the MTB’s logo and website was also available.
“This is the first time we have participated in this show and it was a resounding success,” commented Director of Tourism, Ernestine Cassell. “The Montserrat booth attracted significant attention from journalists, travel agents and consumers, who all had numerous questions about Montserrat. We were also able to promote several upcoming events such as the Literary Festival in November, the Volcano Half Marathon and Christmas Festival in December. Many visitors were also fascinated by our Irish connections and the activities for St Patrick’s Week 2010, including a special vacation package for this event, were also promoted.”
The show was well promoted to New York residents by the organizers, which helped the Montserrat booth to see significant visitor traffic on both days. Montserrat appeared twice in a special pullout section in the weekend edition of the New York Post newspaper, which has a circulation of over 500,000.
The show was also promoted on Fox 5 television, which broadcasted live at the expo show floor from 5 am-10 am the day before the show started, to preview the show to viewers. Montserrat also received significant promotion from National Geographic Adventure Magazine, which had a huge presence at the show through its large booth at the entrance and several lecture presentations.
The magazine, which the MTB currently advertises in, was promoting its next issue that has a cover story that includes Montserrat’s Voyage to the Volcano package as one of the top 25 trips to take in 2010. | | | | Reads : 548 | | | |
