Montserrat's ministerial responsibilities reshuffled

Published on Friday, September 18, 2009Email To Friend    Print Version

BRADES, Montserrat -- Chief Minister Reuben Meade has announced a number of changes in the portfolios of Montserrat government ministers.

The departments of sports and culture have been shifted to the Ministry of Education from the Office of the Chief Minister.

Labour issues, which were previously under the portfolio of the Minister of education and Health, will now be handled by the Minister of Communications and Works Charles Kirnon.

In explaining the move, Meade said Kirnon has a wealth of experience as a trade unionist, is passionately involved in labour laws and is best suited to take care of that responsibility.

Consumer affairs and ecclesiastic affairs have also been transferred to the portfolio of the Minister of Agriculture, Lands, Housing and the Environment Easton Farrell Taylor.

Jermaine Wade and David Osborne, who have not received ministerial appointments, will have special responsibilities for youth affairs and Diaspora affairs respectively.
