BRADES, Montserrat (OCM) -- The Eastern Caribbean Currency Union (ECCU) Heads of Government, the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) Monetary Council and the Organization of East Caribbean States (OECS) Union Task Force held a regional public discussion via videoconference on Thursday, 23 July 2009 at 8:00 pm in the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank Agency Office, Brades.

The two and a half hour long videoconference addressed the OECS Economic Union, and the ECCU Eight Point Stabilisation and Growth Programme.

Sir Howard Fergus, acting Governor; Chief Minister, Lowell Lewis; former Chief Minister, Reuben Meade and a number of top civil servants were among the wide cross section of Montserrat society that attended the session.

It was a historic conference being the first time that a regional public discussion with top government officials and other leaders has been organized to advance the economic agenda of the region. The economy and the way forward for the countries of the OECS are currently on everybody’s mind and as such a discussion of this magnitude was not only timely but also very necessary.

The presentation and discussions were carried live by radio and TV.
