Fuller, who headed home the game winner from a Rory Delap’s trademark long throw against Sunderland in midweek, teamed up again with the same player to score his fifth goal of the season.
Playing at home at the Britannia Stadium, Stoke played like true giant killers from the opening the minutes of play and got their reward after eleven minutes when long-throw specialist Delap looked up and found Fuller, who out leaped his marker to guide home the floater past goalkeeper Manuel Almunia for a 1-0 lead.
Delap was again at the center stage with another of his long throws which was finished off this time by Seyi Olofinjana, who scored the host's second in the 73rd minute.
Delap lofted throw into the area was nodded on by Ryan Shawcross on to Olofinjana, who poked the ball past Almunia after controlling with his chest.
Arsenal fought hard and pulled a goal back in the 90th minute through Gael Clichy, who deflected home a goal to make it 2-1. Too little too late though and Arsenal were left without a point as the positions in the league table took major switches.
After the match Stoke manager Tony Pulis expressed delight with his team’s win.
"It was a fantastic result for this football team, for the squad and the city," he said. "Arsenal are a good team. Actually, good team? They are a great team with a great manager.
"The togetherness we showed, working so hard off the ball, was first class."
Arsenal, who were passed by Manchester United for third place are in fourth spot with 20 points in the league table, while Stoke hold down 12th with 13-points. | | | | Reads : 631 | | | |
