PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: Trinidad and Tobago Prime Minister, Patrick Manning has admitted that cross-border talks have broken down, after the signing of the PetroCaribe agreement last July involving Venezuela and other countries in the region.
The Prime Minister is quoted as stating that the talks were suspended after the agreement, but Trinidad and Tobago had received word late last week that Venezuela wanted to resume the discussions.
According to Manning, there was a coincidence between the suspension of the talks and the raising of that issue.
"Whether the two are related, I'm in no position to say," said Manning.
He made the announcement after a meeting with Chevron-Texaco chairman, David O'Reilly, at Whitehall.
Meanwhile, O'Reilly has re-affirmed his company's desire to be part of the country's energy development programme, including further oil and gas explorations.
