Cuba warns against satellite dish use
Saturday, February 10, 2007
HAVANA, Cuba (UPI): Cuba's Communist Party has warned the island's populace against using or building makeshift satellite dishes, Granma newspaper reported.
Cuban officials this week criticised a decision to show US-funded TV Marti on Spanish-language stations in Miami picked up by satellite in Cuba.
"They are trying new ways to get their meddlesome and subversive messages, designed to destabilise the Cuban revolution, seen and heard in our country," an official statement said, the Miami Herald reported Tuesday.
TV and Radio Marti are officially banned in Cuba, though the signal can be picked up by those with illegal satellite dishes.
"The authorities of our country, with the support of the vast majority of the people, are taking and will take the measures" needed to halt the reception of TV Marti in Cuba, Granma reported.
