The Caribbean should not be viewed as just a vacation destination
Friday, February 9, 2007
I read Clarence Pilgrim's commentary on the United States and Iraq and thought he summed up the situation in a concise and understandable format that is often lacking in the US. In particular, he states that one of the problems the US has in helping to resolve some of Iraq's current difficulties is a lack of understanding of a culture and way of life that is very different from our own. This is also why I read Mr Pilgrim's article. As a US citizen, it helps to get the viewpoint of other nations. It is interesting to read how global problems in Iraq, Sudan and elsewhere affect our smaller neighbors. Americans would be wise to see their Caribbean neighbors as partners and hopefully allies, not just vacation destinations, as our world becomes more dangerous and complex. Lynn Luchtenburg
