Cuba deports Colombian drug boss

Friday, February 9, 2007

HAVANA, Cuba (AFP): Cuba on Thursday deported to Colombia a notorious drug cartel boss whose extradition has been sought by the United States, a Cuban official who took part in the deportation told AFP.

Luis Hernando Gomez Bustamante, 49, also known as 'Rasguno' ('Scratch'), is the alleged head of Colombia's Norte del Valle drug cartel. He was handed over to Colombian security officials who flew here from Bogota on a government plane.

"Everything went according to procedure. The plane left at 2:45 pm (1945 GMT). The prosecutor's office handed him over to Colombian agents," said the Cuban official, who asked not to be identified.

Gomez is among the drug traffickers most wanted by US justice officials, who have requested his extradition.
