FBI searches for missionary in Haiti
Friday, February 9, 2007
PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (UPI): FBI hostage negotiators have been sent to Haiti to help secure the release of a kidnapped American missionary, the Miami Herald has reported.
Nathan Jean-Dieubonne, 58, was abducted this week on his way home from church.
FBI officials in Miami said Dieubonne's family requested that the agency help negotiate with captors after they received a ransom demand for his release.
Kidnappings in Haiti have steadily risen over the last year amid continuing violence associated with the 2004 uprising that prompted then-President Jean-Bertrand Aristide to leave the country.
