02-08-2007

GRAND TURK, Turks & Caicos Islands: The Turks & Caicos Islands were in mourning Wednesday, after a plane crash claimed the life of veteran pilot McDonald “Donnie” Gardiner, nephew of Premier Dr Michael Misick.

Gardiner was the pilot of a King Air 200 which was carrying five passengers from North Caicos to Grand Turk.

The surviving passengers, who sustained injuries, were airlifted to the Myrtle Rigby Health Complex in Providenciales.

Initial reports indicate that the plane took off from the North Caicos Airport at around 7:20 Tuesday evening and crashed in shallow waters shortly thereafter.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
