NEW YORK, USA: Embarking on what is expected to be a fruitful season, Jamaican sprinter Sheri-Ann Brooks will turn her attention to the Millrose Games – IAAF indoor permit, which celebrates the 100th edition of the meeting at Madison Square Garden on Friday 2 February.

Brooks, who finished a close third last weekend at the Boston Indoors, will have the opportunity for revenge when she tackles Boston's winner Marshevet Hooker for the title. Also entered in the event are Americans Miki Barber, who also defeated Brooks at the weekend, as well as Angela Daigle-Bowen and Rachelle Smith, the 2005 World 200m silver medallist.

Last weekend, Brooks ran 7.29 in her first race of a full indoor campaign and her coach Marlon Malcolm is hoping she can build on that performance.

“We don’t really have a set time for her (going into) this meeting,” Malcolm told Caribbean Net News on Thursday. “We are just hoping she will do her best and step up from what she did last weekend (in Boston),” he added.

After being bumped out of the men's race last weekend for false-starting, Steve Mullings of Jamaica, a former national 200m champion, will have his hands full when he takes on American veteran Maurice Greene, the world record holder in the event, at 6.39 seconds and Olympic 200m champion Shawn Crawford, who seeks his second win in seven days.

With Greene using the indoor meeting as part of his preparation for taking a stab at Asafa Powell's 100m world record of 9.77, the race is expected to be fast - especially with the presence of Jason Smoots and Mark Jelks, who are both strong starters.

The women's 400m race will see Grenadian defending Millrose champion Hazel Ann Regis again taking on two Americans for the title. Last year she easily defeated Tiffany Ross-Williams and Crystal Cox, but will face stronger competition from DeeDee Trotter, and Mary Danner for the crown this year.

Americans Tyree Washington, the 2003 World Indoor champion and World outdoor silver medallist at 400m and World 400m Hurdles champion Bershawn Jackson head the men's field for the 600m title. The race will also see Jamaican Pete Cooley and Michael Tinsley and competing.

Trinidad and Tobago's Sherridan Kirk has been entered in a men's 800m lineup that will compete for the Daily News title. The race also include American 2003 World Indoor champion David Krummenacker, who apart from Kirk will also be tested by countryman Sam Burley and Justus Koech of Kenya.
