LETTER TO THE EDITORA positive change in GrenadaFriday, February 2, 2007Dear Sir:
It would be nice if I could voice my opinion on the latest news coming out of my country. It depresses me to read all the negative stories about government corruption and mismanagement and I ask myself, how will it end? Citizens of Grenada need to address this issue fast or blame ourselves for turning a blind eye to the destructive future that this administration is presently leading our country to. We need to seriously take a look at the way our state is being run and handled and put in place measures that would send a clear message to anyone that takes a post in government, that they will be held responsible for their actions no matter what. Its time to throw away the mentality in our land that once a man could give me a job or a plate of food on election day, I will give him my vote. Ask ourselves how are we letting people that are only willing or interested in disposing of our national assets such as our airlines and our national parks get away with it time and again. Don't we have no commonsense or responsibility to our next generation? Backhand deals and the straight up blindness to accept that we are heading our way back as a nation to the colonial days long before Eric Mathew Gairy, who at least gave us some form of self awareness and pride as a people. I find it very upsetting and unfair towards the people that sacrificed their lives in the past like (Scotilda Noel) for a better Grenada. If heads of state can't conclude and reconcile our past, then in my opinion they are not worthy of governing our land that needs to acknowledge and put right its past. Let's tread the progressive and dignified road again like in the 1970's. How much more are the innocent and underprivileged willing to accept of the current situation ? It's about that time to check and educate before we can't repair our once blessed state. Roy Banfield Most popular articles: viewed, printed and e-mailed
