RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil (Bloomberg): Cuban President Fidel Castro's health is improving even as his situation remains "difficult" Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said during a speech in Brazil at the Rio de Janeiro state legislature.

Chavez said he spoke with Castro by phone several days ago.

He was at the Rio de Janeiro legislature to receive an award from local politicians.

"For us, Fidel Castro will never die," Chavez said as onlookers chanted support for his plans to nationalize telecommunications, energy and other industries and anti-US slogans. "The motherland, socialism or death"
