PM reveals early success in Dominica's 'Housing Revolution'

ROSEAU, Dominica: Dominica's Prime Minister, Roosevelt Skerrit has been talking about the early success of the Government’s Housing Revolution.

Speaking at the handing over of a cheque of $3 million to the AID Bank recently, the Dominican leader revealed that since Government handed  over a cheque of $4 million to the Government Housing Loans Board in December 2006, a total of thirteen loans with a value of $1.7 million  have  been disbursed to public officers. By the end of February 2007, the GHLB will have disbursed an additional twenty-four loans.

The Government is expected to make an additional amount of $3 million to the GHLB in the next few months.

The Prime Minister also stated that in 2006 sixty-five loans were disbursed to 65 families at a cost of $5.3 million under the Shelter Development Programme being funded by the Caribbean Development Bank and administered by the AID Bank.

The Housing Revolution is being financed mainly through a $29.4 million grant and loan facility financed by the Government of Venezuela.
