OAS continues to support security enhancements in St Lucia
Thursday, January 18, 2007
CASTRIES, St Lucia: The Organization of American States (OAS) Inter-American Committee Against Terrorism, in collaboration with the Government of St Lucia, will be sponsoring a one-week Security Border Patrol Training Course, commencing on Monday, January 22, 2007.
The Course, which emanates from a security assessment of St Lucia’s air and sea ports conducted by officials of the US Homeland Security Department last December, is part of the OAS’s support for the upcoming Cricket World Cup Championship. Some 25 participants, drawn from the supervisory/management ranks of customs, immigration and law enforcement personnel, will attend the training course designed to enhance security skills.
Commenting on this training initiative, OAS Representative in St Lucia, Paul Spencer, stated that the course “seeks to strengthen crucial areas at St Lucia’s main air and seaports that were observed by the US Department of Homeland Security specialists during the December assessment,” and that it is yet “another contribution which the OAS is making to the Caribbean’s efforts in hosting a most successful Cricket World Cup.”
The Security Training Course will be formally opened by the Minister of Home Affairs and National Security, Dr Keith Mondesir, and OAS Representative Paul Spencer.
