POINTE-A-PITRE, Guadeloupe:
Guadeloupe-born French sprinter Christine Arron, who won bronze medals at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki, Finland, has parted company with Coach Guy Ontanon after working together for over four years.
Arron, who holds a personal best time of 10.73, achieved at the European Championships in 1998, also said that she no longer wishes to compete with Team Lagardere, citing a communication breakdown with coach Ontanon the main reason for her decision. "Last Friday I had a long discussion with Xavier Moreau, the general manager of Team Lagardere, and I told him that I do not wish to continue with the team, since my partnership with Guy Ontanon is finished," Arron reportedly told reporters from Guadeloupe. "As it is he who runs the athletics department of the team it is not possible to continue. I've thought about this for some time," she added. Last season Arron, who finished fourth (7.13secs) behind American Me'Lisa Barber in the women's 60m dash at the IAAF World Indoor Championships in Moscow, Russia, but failed to impress during the outdoor season with a disappointing seasonal best of 11.33secs, admitted that she and Ontanon were struggling to understand each other. "We've already discussed this but our relationship is no longer working," she continued. "It is not a problem with the coaching, but of personal communication. "We no longer understand each other." Meanwhile, Ontanon said Arron has been fruitful during their time together and said her decision was personal, one in which he fully respected. "She has chosen to take another route and I respect this decision and it is done in the light of much success," the coach said. "Christine has not made any mistakes during our collaboration and I think that this is reciprocal. "It's a personal choice. I will follow the rest of her career with a lot of interest," he added. With the season only a few weeks away, Arron will now train solo until she is able to come to an agreement with a new coach.
