Turks & Caicos election date announced

GRAND TURK, Turks & Caicos Islands: Premier Dr Michael Misick has announced the date for General Elections in the Turks & Caicos Islands as February 9, 2007. Nomination date according to Misick is January 22, 2007.

This announcement came during a live press conference where the Premier, flanked by his Cabinet Ministers and those running as Progressive National Party (PNP) candidates in the upcoming General Elections, along with a host of supporters, gave a synopsis of his government’s accomplishments under the slogan, “A Promise Made, A Promise Kept”.
He stressed that every major manifesto promise has been fulfilled and that his government has touched every island throughout the Turks and Caicos chain bringing development, a better quality of life for the people and empowerment for Turks and Caicos Islanders.
Misick noted, “My Government stands proudly on our record of achievement, one of unprecedented accomplishments.”
He went on to emphasise the need for every citizen in the Turks and Caicos Islands to exercise their democratic right by going to the polls and electing their party of choice.
He noted that based on the performance of his government, he is confident that the people of this country will enthusiastically support his Progressive National Party (PNP) for a second term in office.
The Premier also reiterated the fact that he would want the election process to be one of decency, tolerance and most of all peace.
To thunderous applause, he announced he wanted to call the election today. He informed the nation that prior to arriving at the press conference he requested from the Governor that Parliament be dissolved with immediate effect and that Nomination Day be declared January 22 and Election Day, February 9, 2007.
