The country has experienced at least three killings for the year 2007.

Speaking on national television, the New York-based crime consultant said a reduction in criminal activity would bring more economic good to Trinidad and Tobago.

Kerik was invited to Trinidad and Tobago by opposition United National Congress (UNC) official, Jack Warner.

UNC spokespersons believe that Kerik's coming to this country would result in some more tangible action to deal with crime.

As part of the welcome, Trinidad and Tobago's national Security Minister, Martin Joseph, facilitated a meeting on Wednesday between the Commissioner of Police Trevor Paul , the Commissioner of Prisons John Rougier, the Director of the Special Anti-crime unit and other officials.

In a press release issue shortly after the meeting, Police Commissioner Paul said they were always open to suggestions and proposals that will assist law enforcement in the country.

Kerik shared some of his international experience in law enforcement which he said was useful in terms of benchmarking the crime fighting efforts in the country.
