BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: West Indies all-rounder Ryan Hinds will captain Barbados in the 2007 regional Carib Beer first class series. Hinds, who was reappointed by the Barbados Cricket Association, will also skipper the Bajans in the KFC Cup.

Barbados will open the new series against Trinidad and Tobago from January 4-7, while their opening match in the KFC Cup will be on January 9.

Hinds, 25, who has made 4,182 run and also captured 123 wickets in first class competitions, has been a valuable member of the Bajans' national team for eight years and he is delighted at having the assistance that former Test players, Seymour Nurse and Vasbert Drakes, as well as Franklyn Stephenson, a long-serving professional, have been giving to the national programme.

"It's so nice to see Seymour Nurse around to offer his assistance with the batsmen," Hinds was quoted as saying in the Nation newspaper.

"I think the batsmen are really enjoying his presence, along with Franklyn Stephenson and also Vasbert Drakes. It's so nice to have these guys around.

"Obviously they played the game and they have had a chance to look at the players. They have looked at our techniques and stuff like that and are trying to iron out a few problems that some of the guys have," he added.

Meanwhile, Trinidad and Tobago will be without West Indies opening batsman Lendl Simmons, who was ruled out of the first match against Barbados.

The 21-year-old, who made his West Indies senior team debut last month in the One Day series against Pakistan, has been ruled out with a damaged right finger and was advised by Dr Terrence Babwah to rest for two weeks.

West Indies opener Daren Ganga will again lead a well-balanced Trinidadian side, which also includes Test players Dwayne Bravo, wicketkeeper/batsman Denesh Ramdin and left-arm spinner Dave Mohammed. The team also includes West Indies paceman Mervyn Dillon.

The other two matches in the series will see Leeward Islands playing at home to Jamaica in St Kitts and Windward Islands against Guyana in Grenada.
