Grenada government refutes threat to dove habitat

ST GEORGE'S, Grenada: In a press statement Wednesday, the Government of Grenada thanked conservationist group Bird Life International for their interest in the wildlife of Grenada but refutes allegations that a proposed tourism development will threaten the habitat of the Grenada dove.

The Government of Grenada said that, through the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of the Environment, it has always pursued a policy of sustainable tourism and will continue to do so.

The Ministry of Tourism firmly believes that the protection of natural resources is important for both the environment and the tourism product, the statement said.

According to Minister of Tourism, Brenda Hood, the development of the Mt Hartman area will not only develop Grenada's tourism product but will see more money coming in for the managing of natural parks.

The Minister noted that the Government and the developers will put resources into maintaining this protected area. She says that Grenada’s many unspoilt hills, valleys, rivers and other natural areas are all unique selling points which distinguish Grenada from competing tourist destinations.
