ROSEAU, Dominica: Dominica’s Acting Prime Minister, Matthew Walter, has pledged support to the newly elected government in St Lucia, following the general elections on December 11.

Walter made an official statement on Tuesday, one day after former St Lucian Prime Minister John Compton returned to the helm of the country’s government, after two terms of absence.

Sir John’s United Workers Party won eleven of the seventeen seats at the General Elections on Monday.

“My government is fully committed to work with the new government headed by Sir John Compton because in the Caribbean region, we have work to do in order for us to be able to achieve those objectives we have set ourselves.

“We cannot work in a divided manner but we have to work together as a team, hence we have work to continue at an OECS level, we have work to continue on a CARICOM level and we have work to continue on a CSME level.

“There’s plenty work to do, hence my government is committed to work hand in hand with the new government of St Lucia and also with all opposition parties in the Caribbean region to ensure that the goals and objectives of the Caribbean region are achieved in a collaborative and collective manner,” Walter said.

Walter also added that the losing St Lucia Labour Party should now mend relationships for the country’s progress.

“I would like to exhort the St Lucia Labour party who lost the election that this is not a time for division; this is a time for mending relationships and working alongside the new government to ensure that the objectives and goals for St Lucia are met in a cooperative and collaborative manner,” Walter said.
