Final Qualification Group J of the Digicel Caribbean Cup moves from Bermuda to Trinidad

Thursday, December 7, 2006

KINGSTON, Jamaica: The final qualification Group J of the Digicel Caribbean Cup has had to be moved from the originally proposed venue of Bermuda from December 12 -16 to now being held in Trinidad from January 5-7, 2007.

Despite numerous efforts by both the Caribbean Football Union and the Bermuda Football Association it has proven beyond possibility to ensure flights and the required visa permissions to transport either the Dominican Republic or Haitian teams.

Although the Bermuda government was involved in assisting the Bermuda FA in their difficult search for flight availability, charter plane costs as well as visa access through the USA, the demands proved to be the undoing of the Digicel Caribbean Cup final qualification being held in Bermuda.

While Haiti agreed to host the Group, the Bermudian squad was facing similar difficulties with flights to travel to this next proposed host country so a decision has been made by the CFU to move the final qualifying groups to Trinidad in January.

The Caribbean Football Union has been intrigual in assisting and advising all countries concerned in their efforts in the hosting of the tournament which will now take place from January 5-9, 2007 in a stadium venue to be confirmed in Trinidad.

The winning side will then stay on as the last qualifying team to the Digicel Caribbean Cup Finals which take place in Trinidad from January 12-23.

The Group J fixtures for Trinidad will now be

January 5 Bermuda vs Dominican Republic
January 7 Dominican vs Republic vs Haiti
January 9 Bermuda vs Haiti

The venue and times for these games will be announced in due course
