Bermuda to host 2007 PGA Grand Slam of Golf
Thursday, December 7, 2006
MIAMI, USA (Reuters): The end-of-season PGA Grand Slam of Golf, which brings together the winners of the year's four majors, will move to the island of Bermuda for the first time next year.
It will be hosted by The Mid Ocean Club and The Fairmont Southampton from Oct. 16-17, organisers said on Wednesday.
For the last 13 years, the elite four-man tournament has been played at Poipu Bay Golf Course in Kauai, Hawaii.
"The PGA grand slam of golf marks a new chapter in its history by visiting the beautiful island of Bermuda, which is no stranger to hosting the finest players in the game," PGA of America President Brian Whitcomb said in a statement.
"What remains constant is that this event features the game's stiffest entry requirement and is a treat for fans and players."
The 36-hole stroke-play event, billed as "the most exclusive tournament in golf", was won for the seventh time by Tiger Woods last month.
The world number one fired a closing six-under 66 to triumph by two shots over Jim Furyk and claim his 10th victory of the year.
