CASTRIES, St Lucia: The William Peter Boulevard in St Lucia's capital Castries was a sea of yellow on Sunday as thousands gathered to witness the launch of the United Workers Party (UWP) election manifesto.
Among the speakers were Richard Frederick, Tessa Mangal and the key speaker Sir John Compton, leader of the opposition.
Sir John said there will be no new taxes, he would create more jobs, he would revisit the Labour Code and also reduce the food import bill. He also indicated that new shipping ports will be constructed at Cul-de-sac and Soufriere while Vieux-Fort and Castries will be transformed into cruise tourism shopping ports.
Compton believes the plan to privatise the water system should not happen but the Roseau Dam will be improved to increase its holding capacity and a new dam will be constructed in the south of the island.
Due to printing problems, there was no distribution of the manifestos, but they will reportedly be delivered at the constituency offices before the general election.
