New minimum wage comes into effect in Turks & Caicos

GRAND TURK, Turks & Caicos Islands: The Department of Labour in the Turks & Caicos Islands has reminded all employers and workers that by Order of the Governor, under section 23 of the Employment Ordinance 2004, the national minimum basic wage will be $5.00 per hour, with effect from Friday, December 1, 2006.

Further, the Department says, where the new minimum wage makes it necessary to change the rate of pay, the employers have a duty under subsection (3) of section 6. to provide a statement, within 14 days, confirming the change in the terms of employment.

Employment agencies must ensure that workers they provide to user enterprises are paid the new minimum wage or better.
