LONDON, England: Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock has admitted that losing Jamaican central defender Claude Davis is a huge blow for the Sheffield United backline in the upcoming fixtures.

Davis suffered an ankle ligament injury after blocking a shot from Watford's Gavin Mahon in his side's crucial 1-0 win at Vicarage Road on Tuesday night, and it has been reported that he could be out of action for as long as three weeks.

The injury is also a big blow to the Jamaican defender, who only recently returned from a knee cartilage injury, and the Blades boss said it is a big loss to the newly-promoted Premiership club.

"We don't know the full extent of Claude's injury at the moment," said Warnock. "But he'll have a scan and we'll take it from there, although we think he might be out for a few weeks."

"It is hard enough for clubs like us when you have your best players available, never mind when they are injured. Unfortunately, the injury is not a trivial one.

"It is a major blow, just as losing Marlon King for the season is a blow for Aidy Boothroyd at Watford."

Davis joined United in a club record £2.5 million four-year deal from Preston in the summer and he has established himself as an essential member of Sheffield's defensive line. The strong centre-back was crowned Preston's player of the year last season.

Besides the loss of Davis, three other Blades player are currently nursing injuries. They are Derek Geary, Mikele Leigertwood and Chris Morgan, all of whom required treatment during the vital win at Vicarage Road.
