LONDON, England: Former Reggae Boyz hero Deon Burton has yet to find his goal scoring touch in the opening fixtures for Sheffield Wednesday, but his strike partner Marcus Tudgay believes once the Jamaican finds his eye for goal again the flood gates will open.

Burton's only goal this season came from the penalty spot, but he has created several goals for others, while showing his form in his side's revival and Tudgay is backing his strike partner to end his goal drought.

"Deon's not going to beat himself up over not scoring; he knows it will come, and so do I," said Tudgay, the leading goal scorer for Wednesday thus far this season.

"When he does score, he's not going to stop. He's played his heart out, held the ball up and brought others into play, and he's helped to create things, like the first goal against West Brom.

"It was his ball to Chris Brunt that led to Brunty's great cross and Glenn Whelan's header. Every striker knows that it's only a matter of time with goals."

Wednesday's manager Brian Laws also agreed that Burton's plays an important part in the side, adding that being a striker is not all about selfishly trying to stick the back into the net.

"There's more to the game than putting the ball in the back of the net," Laws said. "All strikers go through this sort of spell.

"As long as they keep working and creating for others as well, and the team is doing well. The strikers will get a goal and it's like when you're waiting for a bus, other goals will come."

Wednesday won six of their last ten matches in the English League Championship and are in 15th place in the points standing. Preston North End lead the table with 38-points, 11 more than Wednesday, who have 27.
