SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic (Reuters): Nine people were killed on Monday in a predawn fire that swept through a nightclub in the Dominican capital Santo Domingo, authorities said.
The victims, including six female employees of the club, Jazzys, located on the city's east side, were all thought to have died of smoke inhalation, according to Col. Javier Bueno of the Santo Domingo Fire Department.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation, but police said two people, including a night watchman, had been detained for questioning.
