The United Kingdom represents the largest number of entries with 47% of the fleet; the second largest being Germany with 13%. France, USA, Italy and Norway are also represented. 72-year-old James Dorsey is the oldest skipper, while 20-year old Georgina Eggleton is the youngest skipper and the youngest participant is only one year old.
Cuthbert Didier, General Manger of the Rodney Bay Marina, indicated that Saint Lucia stands to benefit greatly during the Rally. There are returning yachties and also there are those who invest in property.
An 11-track CD entitled "Sail Away" which is 100% a St Lucian product, will be given to each participants in the welcome package. Hence, to some extent, the music, tourism and the manufacturing sector stands to benefit from the ARC.
From November 26, the Rodney Bay Marina will be transformed to the ARC Village with fun, food, drink and music. A programme of activities is in place and there is something for everyone. Some of the activities include the General Manager's cocktail party for sponsors and participants, the bounty distillers party, bounty aqua action on the beach, the after work lime which will be held on Wednesdays and week-ends.
By the time the party is over, yachties will be eagerly awaiting the next registration date, since the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers and St Lucians have grown to be one happy family.
