ST JOHN’S, Antigua: The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) confirmed on Wednesday that Dr Roland Toppin of Barbados will take over the role of chief executive officer.
Toppin replaces fellow Barbadian Roger Brathwaite, who resigned from the post last March, and his appointment will become effective from February 1, 2007.
"Having followed, with interest, the progress of West Indies cricket from as far as I can remember, I consider it a great honour to have been chosen as CEO of the WICB at this critical time," Toppin said in a WICB news release.
"I will do all in my power to put the policies in place which will ultimately lead to the return of the West Indies cricket team to the top of the World standings."
Toppin is presently the General Manager of Duraplast Inc. in Barbados, a recycling company that manufactures roofing tiles. The man who has had a heavy involvement in cricket in his homeland, has also held positions of Director of Research, Sugar Technology Research Unit in Barbados and Assistant Professor of Chemistry at the University of Cincinnati, Ohio, USA. He has a Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Cincinnati.
Toppin is a former Chairman of Island Crafts (Barbados) Inc. and Deputy Chairman of the Barbados Investment and Development Corporation. He made a transition from scientific research to top management in the private sector six years ago.
