Bermuda outclass Bahamas in the Digicel Caribbean Cup Group G matches in Barbados
11-23-2006

BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: The opening match of Tuesday’s Digicel Caribbean Cup Group G double header at the National Stadium in Bridgetown Barbados, saw Bermuda emerge as easy victors over a spirited Bahamas side. Their ability to exercise basic ball retention combined with successful penetration the oppositions defence were deciding factors in this contest. Bermuda dominated from the start securing 3 of their 4 goals with the first 30 minutes of the match.

The first came in the sixth minute when Khano Smith drove home the first of his two goals of the evening. Bermudian fans had only to wait for a further 11 minutes when John Barry’s well placed free kick found the net. Bermuda enjoying the majority of the possession added to their tally when Khano Smith again scored in the 28th minute to put his team 3 nil ahead.

The second half saw the Bermudians pick up where they had left off. Dominating the play in the midfield, they restricted the number of attacks on their defence and shots on their goal. Undeterred, the Bahamas kept fighting but frustration crept in and very soon a total of 4 yellow cards had been handed out.

The Bahamas succeeded in holding Bermuda at bay until the 87 minute when in a maneuver which typified Khano Smith’s organised performance, he picked out Kwame Steede just in front of the goal. Steede gladly accepted the pass and with superb control turned and placed ball straight into the back of the net.

Having suffered their second defeat of this round, the Bahamas bow out of the contest but remain to face St. Vincent & The Grenadines on Thursday. Bermuda will do battle with the hosts Barbados.
