St Lucia to go to the polls next month

CASTRIES, St Lucia: The ruling Saint Lucia Labour Party held a massive political meeting at the Castries market steps on Thursday to announce the date of the country's General Election.
For the first time in St Lucia's history, the meeting was broadcast live on radio and television. Hundreds of party supporters and curious onlookers listened and waited for the announcement of the election date.
Dr Vaughn Lewis and Dr Tennyson Joseph addressed the crowd, before the Prime Minister, Dr Kenny Anthony announced that he will advise the Governor General, Dame Pearlette Louisy, to dissolve the House of Parliament on Friday, November 17, 2006.
Nomination Day was announced to be Thursday, November 30, 2006.
Anthony asked for a fair and peaceful election and he rang the election bell as he announced the election date to be Monday, December 11, 2006
St Lucians will choose between the United Workers Party and the St Lucia Labour Party, the two parties expected to contest the election next month.
