Milutinovic signs four-year deal to coach Reggae Boyz

KINGSTON, Jamaica (AFP): Bora Milutinovic has signed a four-year contract to coach Jamaica's national football team and try to lift the "Reggae Boyz" back to the World Cup, Radio Jamaica reported Wednesday.

The 62-year-old Serbian-born legend, the only man to have coached five different nations to the World Cup finals, is set to make one million dollars US to serve as technical director of the Caribbean island squad.

Milutinovic reached the finals with Mexico in 1986, Costa Rica in 1990, the United States in 1994, Nigeria in 1998 and China in 2002.

During a four-day visit to Jamaica in October, Milutinovic met with several stakeholders and watched one National Premier League game here before returning to his home in Mexico.

Milutinovic arrived back on the island Tuesday and was at the national stadium Wednesday to watch the "Reggae Boyz" in a friendly against Peru.

He will take over from local coach Carl Brown, who held the job on an interim basis for three months after Jamaican Wendell Downswell stepped down earlier this year.

Downswell had taken over the job following Jamaica's failed attempt to qualify for this year's World Cup finals in Germany.

Jamaica qualified for the 1998 World Cup in France under the guidance of Brazilian Rene Simoes, winning a game against Japan after losing to Croatia and Argentina.
