St Lucia resort named best golf development in the Caribbean

Thursday, November 9, 2006

PRASLIN BAY, St Lucia: The Westin Le Paradis St Lucia Beach & Golf Resort, a new golf development on the Caribbean island of St Lucia, has received two prestigious Bentley International Property Awards, announced Kierron Dolby, Managing Director of DCG properties, the property’s developer.

The resort will be managed by Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, Inc., the parent company of Westin Hotels & Resorts.

Le Paradis won first place and was awarded five stars for Best Caribbean Golf Development and Best International Golf Development at the Bentley International Property Awards gala in Marriott Hotel in Grosvenor Square, London on Friday, November 3, 2006.

“We are truly honoured to be presented with such prestigious awards. These awards speak to our passion for bringing world-class golf to St Lucia while at the same time ensuring that the course compliments and preserves St. Lucia’s natural beauty,” says Dolby.

Now entering its 12th year, the International Property Awards have been called the “Oscars” of the property industry. The awards aim to distinguish the highest levels of achievement in a range of property-related fields. Estate Agency and development categories are entered at a state level, while special categories are entered at a national level. The Bentley awards are truly global, with entrants applying from around the world. Award categories include estate agents, property developers, home builders, resorts, interior designers and additional areas of the residential property trade. Categories covered by these awards include construction and development, architecture, interior design, landscape, websites, marketing, public relations and estate/real estate agencies.

The gala dinner and presentation is the climax of the awards calendar. More than 500 professionals from no less than 27 countries gathered in Grosvenor Square in London to receive the awards.

Le Paradis, which broke ground earlier this year, sits on 554 lush acres overlooking St Lucia’s spectacular Praslin Bay. An ultra-exclusive multi-phased luxury residential development, Le Paradis features a Greg Norman Signature golf course, world-class spa, 100-slip marina, five star boutique hotel, yacht club, gourmet restaurants, upscale boutique shopping and conference facilities, anchored by St Lucia’s first Westin resort.

The first-of-its-kind on the eastern seaboard of St Lucia, The Westin Le Paradis St Lucia Beach & Golf Resort occupies one of the most beautiful areas of the east coast, encompassing over four kilometers of coastline in Praslin Bay, with beaches protected by reefs and naturally shallow bathing waters.

Planning and construction of the development has been carefully considered to reflect, maintain and enhance the natural beauty of its surrounding, dedicating large areas of land to nature reserves and the remainder to be utilised sympathetically within the environment. Le Paradis will contribute to the ongoing development of St Lucia, providing an entrancing destination for years to come.

Located on the resort, the Greg Norman’s signature 18-hole golf course is defined by the 14th hole, also known as the “Shark’s Bight,” which is situated more than a hundred feet above sea level and sits above crashing waves. Says Norman, “Le Paradis’ 14th hole is one of the most stunning, yet challenging holes I have ever designed. There are few places in the world so pure and untouched. With the land rising from the sea to the crest of the property at 610 feet, the 14th hole offers serene vistas of the island with the innate difficulty of a water hazard.”

Le Paradis’ limited number of residences includes one, two and three-bedroom condominiums and three and four bedroom villas with unobstructed ocean views. Additionally, the resort offers home sites around the Greg Norman course, which sit 330 feet above sea level with views of the fairways and the ocean. Residential offerings range from below $500,000 to $2.7 million, with incentives including a waiver of the Le Paradis’ golf initiation membership, a waiver of golf dues for three years and a Troon Advantage VIP card.

Nestled between Martinique and St Vincent in the southern portion of the Caribbean chain, St Lucia is known for the spectacular twin Piton Mountains, tropical rain forest, volcanic sand beaches and jagged cliffs.
