BVI announces new civil aviation regulations
Friday, October 27, 2006
ROAD TOWN, BVI: The Government of the British Virgin Islands, in conjunction with Air Safety Support International, has announced a new single set of civil aviation requirements for the territory.
A series of seminars to brief industry on the changes has also been arranged.
The new operating rules, known as Overseas Territories Aviation Requirements (OTARs), describe the standards that civil aviation must meet and will cover aviation in the BVI and the other UK Overseas Territories.
Permanent Secretary, Communications and Works, Rosalie Adams says the BVI will now have in place a single coherent code which has been specifically developed to cater for the BVI aviation industry.
Adams says the new requirements will have a significant effect on those who manufacture, operate or maintain BVI-registered aircraft, on airports and air traffic services in the Islands or on those who hold personnel licences or validations issued by the DCA." She says, in order to ensure that the industry is aware of these changes, a series of free presentations has been arranged in Tortola as well as in the other Territories. Events are also taking place in USA, Europe and the Middle East.
The presentation in the BVI will be held on Monday, November 13. This seminar will include presentations and discussion for the industry. There will also be a special session for government officials in the afternoon.
Air Safety Support International Ltd (ASSI), a wholly owned subsidiary of the Civil Aviation Authority, was formally established on 1 April 2003 and is funded through the UK Department for Transport.
