Top US official for security talks in Trinidad

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad: United States Secretary for Homeland Security, Michael Chertoff, is due to arrive in Trinidad Thursday for talks with several national security ministers of the Caribbean region.

Chertoff is also scheduled to meet in special session with Trinidad and Tobago's National Security Minister, Martin Joseph. Among other matters, discussions will focus on security arrangements for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.

Chertoff is also due to attend the signing of a Memorandum of Intent between the US and CARICOM.  This relates to the advanced passenger information system, which forms part of the security arrangements for the 2007 cricket tournament.

Thursday's signing ceremony is due to takr place at the Hilton Trinidad in Port of Spain.

Trinidad and Tobago's National Security Minister, Martin Joseph, is quoted as saying that the Caribbean ministers would be raising a number of issues at the talks with regard to  US-Caribbean relations.
