MONTEGO BAY, Jamaica: Velibor 'Bora' Milutinovic, the world-renowned coach most likely to fill the vacant slot as Jamaica's technical director, is already impressed with the agility of the locally-based players.
Milutinovic, who attended one of the country's top football league games on Sunday, between Wadadah and Portmore at Jarrett Park, emphasized on the speed and athleticism of the players during the National Premier League game.
"Speed is important at the highest level, and I saw that today," Milutinovic said, after watching his first match in Jamaica. "It was nice to see my first game in Jamaica."
Checking out the Premiership match alongside Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) president, Crenston Boxhill, and Treasurer, Rudolph Speid, Milutinovic was reportedly seen taking notes in his notepad and making video clips with a small video recorder.
"The game was not bad, I saw some good players, not many, a few," said Milutinovic, after taking down the names of a few players on the afternoon.
The Serbia-Montenegro-born is the only man to have coached five different teams at the World Cup, he is also the first coach to take four different teams beyond the first round, and Jamaica is hoping he will be the person to make another impact in the island's football programme.
Milutinovic has had previous stints with Mexico (1986), Costa Rica (1990), the United States (1994), Nigeria (1998), and China (2002). He took all but China past the first round of the tournament.
The 62-year-old veteran coach left the island on Monday, following a four-day trip where "he met with several stakeholders and the executive of the JFF."
