BRIDGETOWN, Barbados: The father and son charged in connection with the beating of a 15-year-old boy, in a case that involved accusations of racism, have been released on bail.
Fifty-three-year-old attorney, Mark Winston Goodridge of St Joseph, and 23-year-old businessman, Simon Mark Goodridge of St Michael were each granted $10,000 bail with a surety when they appeared before Chief Magistrate Clyde Nicholls. They will return to court on December 11.
The two are jointly charged with causing serious bodily harm to the juvenile with intent to maim, disfigure or disable him on October 6 in Highgate Park. The elder Goodridge is separately charged that he unlawfully discharged a firearm, that he unlawfully assaulted the juvenile and that he used insulting words to the boy, which may have stirred up racial hatred.
The father and son, who turned themselves in to police Tuesday morning accompanied by their attorneys, were kept in cells at the Central Police Station until their court appearance.
Meantime, the young boy at the centre of the case remains on remand at the Government Industrial School, charged with unlawful possession of a pair of scissors, which he allegedly had at the time of the incident.
